This little hole in the wall is delicious and a great value. I ordered the goat and rice dish, which was fantastic. I haven't had goat in some time and this was done just right. The staff was very friendly and a pleasure to be around.

First off...I drove past this place because it is hard to find. It isn't located in front of the strip mall, but instead is on the rear south side. Once inside there were plenty of tables and a counter to place your order off the menu overhead. We were the only ones there at lunch, except another patron that came in for some takeout. They had a TV on with a live stream of Mecca, complete with lots of praying and walking around the monument. Hopefully this doesn't bother you because there is some really interesting and delicious food to be experienced. While we were waiting we started with some Sambuusa appetizers, a Somali version of the samosa. They were chock full of ground lamb and veggies and I was really glad we ordered them. It took a little while for our meals to be prepared, so a snack was perfect. Deciding what to get when you order off the menu board above the counter is a little daunting, but the employees here were more than willing to answer any questions. The plates of food here are humongous. What you get for $10 is truly a deal and enough for two. There are some really random things on the menu like chicken wings and pizza. I so want to come back and order a goat pizza. For some reason that sounds hilarious to me and I know of no other place where this is possible. I decided to try the Veggie Soor with Marak. It was a big plate of a vegetable stew, corn grits (Soor), a salad, and a bowl of lamb soup (Maraq). It was delicious and filling but I could help being jealous of my coworkers entree. My dining companion ordered the lamb and rice. It was a big plate of this beautiful basamati rice pilaf with tons of vegetables and raisins (think Indian Bryani) and a big serving of barbequed lamb. It came with a salad and a bowl of the Maraq soup. After chatting a while with the very friendly staff, I asked what else was good on the menu. The nice employee recommended the chicken and rice and said it was her favorite. I promised to come back to try it out. You can't help but feeling adventurous dining here.

I wouldn't have discovered this delightful hole-in-the-wall not too far from my house if it wasn't for you, Yelp. My husband and I recently went here for a late lunch and were the only people in the place for most of the time. There were quite a few unfamiliar things on the menu, so the lady at the counter helped us worked through it. We ended up with some lamb, some chicken, and a LOT of tasty, tasty rice. For the record, two people can really share a meal here as the plates are the size of two of the dinner plates I use at home. Prices are reasonable and the flavors are fantastic. I'd highly recommend checking this place out.

fantastic and very cheap Somali food. i tried the Somali style lamb with rice and vegetables and a cabbage soup, all were wonderful.. this is a very simple order at the counter place hidden in the back of a nondescript strip mall building in an industrial park/warehouse area .. friendly service..

Amazing portions! I have ordered a few things here, but I have to say that my go-to item is the lamb plate. Do not judge this place by it's appearance.

A group of 7 of us popped in by accident last night. La Hacienda was closed (4p on Wednesdays for those that care) and this was nearby. It was almost 8p, so we called ahead and they said come over. The place is a little hard to find as it's set off the east side of Redwood Road. First, what I didn't like: Decor is pretty weak. Not just that it's a hole in the wall, but no effort to give it any character, and stuff like a Good Humor freezer took away from any hope of ethnic charm. The menu is pretty limited and on a backlit board above the counter where you order. And the food on the menu board looks pretty awful. In fact, my wife didn't see anything she wanted to order. (So I ordered for her without telling her.) At least two of the items (again, on a limited menu) were out. Yes, it was evening. Once we ordered, it took at least 20 minutes to get our food. They did warn us about this. What I liked: The food. The plates looked great and the food was generally terrific. Everyone loved it., with maybe one exception (the soup). Two kinds of bread--both good. Awesome rice dishes filled with vegetables--and this appears to be a staple on all the main dishes. Nice salad on the plate. Flavorful chicken and goat. My wife loved her food. Some of the menu items seemed odd--like lasagna and burritos. But one of our party ordered a burrito and he thought it was good, and a very different "interpretation." I have never eaten at a Somalian restaurant, but it's nothing like Ethiopian food, which would be my closest comparison. I should add that the service was very friendly and attentive--the owner, his wife and daughter. Nice people. Just what you'd hope for in a place like this. Prices very reasonable--mostly $10 a plate. I think all of us felt we would be happy to go back.

Good food - I like their Chicken Tikka and rice. Good prices too.

The most original Iranian (persian) taste of Kabab in Salt Lake City! The price is reasonable, the owner is respectful, the place is not fancy, but very clean. Just try lamb Kobideh Kabab and lamb tikka kabab if you are curious about how an Iranian style of kabab tastes. The food is also Halal. As an originally Iranian guy, I highly recommend this place...
